This weekend, a major sportswear and athletic-shoe retailer is opening the doors to its new community store in Brampton.

Foot Locker Canada is opening a 15,000-sq.-ft. location at Shopper’s World (499 Main St. S.). The opening and ribbon-cutting is set for 9:30 a.m. on Saturday (Dec. 10).

The store will carry apparel and footwear from top brands such as Nike, adidas, PUMA, and local brands through Foot Locker’s Home Grown platform.

The community store concept entails offering exclusive, city-centric programming through partnering with organizations, artists and community members in Brampton. Foot Locker says it will be offering in-store events, workshops, keynote speakers, and more to engage with consumers of all ages.

Businessman and philanthropist Nav Bhatia, the Toronto Raptors superfan, is scheduled to appear at the opening as a special guest. Artist and muralist Jasmin Pannu, whose commissions have included several urban beautification projects across Ontario, is also scheduled to appear.

Activities at the grand opening will include a latte bar, Foot Locker-branded treats, in-store giveaways, a DJ and a photobooth.

Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, Wards 3/4 Coun. Dennis Kenenan, Peel Regional Police Supt. Navi Chhinzer and Jonathan Robillard, a vice-president at Foot Locker Canada, are also expected as special guests.

Foot Locker Canada comprises 95 stores nationwide. It also has a location that includes a Kids Foot Locker at the Bramalea City Centre (25 Peel Centre Dr., Space 158a). It also has three Mississauga outlets in two locations, with stores at Square One Shopping Centre (which includes a Kids Foot Locker) and Erin Mills Town Centre.
