Golfers and other Brampton residents itching to stretch their legs this weekend got some good news from Premier Doug Ford yesterday with the announcement that many outdoor recreational amenities will be allowed to re-open.
Ontario is not out of the pandemic just yet, but Ford’s three-step re-opening plans begins tomorrow with the re-opening of golf courses and driving ranges; tennis and basketball courts; splash pads; baseball diamonds and batting cages; soccer and other sports fields; lawn bowling and bocce; marinas; and BMX and skate parks.
No organized outdoor sports or recreational classes will be permitted, however, and outdoor pools have not yet been given the green light to open.
Splash pads, which were not on the oprn list yesterdasy, were added this afternoon after pressure from municipal officials, notably Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson.
Outdoor limits for social gatherings and organized public events will also be expanded on Saturday, which will allow these amenities to be used by up to five people.
In addition, the regulations will allow outdoor gatherings up to five people, including outdoor wedding receptions. Wedding ceremonies, religious services and rites are permitted indoors or outdoors with a maximum of 10 people.
The Province’s three-step ‘Roadmap’ to re-open also outlined when other sectors like outdoor dining, personal services and outdoor fitness can safely reopen.
The current Stay-at-Home Order requires everyone to remain at home except for essential reasons, such as grocery shopping, going to the pharmacy, accessing health care services (including getting vaccinated), outdoor exercise or for work that cannot be done remotely.
The community is encouraged to continue to wear a face covering and physical distance appropriately.
