Construction in downtown Brampton will make it slow moving for traffic the next three years, admits Mayor Patrick Brown.

Speaking at his weekly press conference this morning (Feb. 9), Brown said the work will be intrusive with regular disruptions, but he pointed out the work is necessary for the city to meet long-term goals.

“We are going to see a massive level of construction activity in our downtown core,” said Brown in response to a question from the media. “There will be the downtown revitalization project and the streetscaping. There will also be major projects such as the Centre for Innovation and one announced by Rogers.”

Brown added that several density projects such as condominiums are also slated to begin and last a few years.

“There will be delays, but I am excited about our downtown,” he said. “It’s going to be a magnet for economic activity and investment for jobs and talent in the years to come, but to rebuild a downtown is not without disruption. This no point to mislead the public about that. It will be more difficult to get around. It will be an annoyance that we are going to have to bear for the best interest of our downtown and our city.”
