A Brampton driver has been taken off the road for 30 days after allegedly going nearly 50 km/h over the speed limit near Timmins.

Around 4:00 a.m. on Sunday (May 1), The OPP say members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment stopped a vehicle on Highway 11 in Eby Township, some 130 kilometres southeast of Timmins.

Police say the driver was going nearly 50 km/h over the limit in a posted 70 km/h zone.

Officers say they clocked the vehicle travelling at 113 km/h, and a 20-year-old from Brampton has been charged with racing a motor vehicle.

The driver was handed down a 30 day driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

Police have not released any details about the accused other than their age and that they are from Brampton.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake on June 9.
