Brampton driver charged after falling asleep in stolen vehicle: police

Caledon cops have charged a pair from Brampton and North York after falling asleep in a stolen vehicle.

On Thursday morning, police in Caledon were called to the intersection of Mayfield Road and Highway 10 after a vehicle was stopped in a live lane.

When officers arrived they found two people asleep in the vehicle.

Police say the vehicle had been reported stolen, and officers surrounded the vehicle and woke the occupants.

That’s when police say the driver attempted to flee the scene.

Officers were able to take the two occupants into custody and both have been charged.

A 23-year-old from Brampton has been charged with:

  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
  • Possession of Break-In Instruments
  • Interfere with Traffic
  • Fail to Surrender License

A 23-year-old from North York has been charged with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
  • Possession of Break-In Instruments

Police have not yet released the names of the accused, who are scheduled to appear in Orangeville Provincial Court in April.

The investigation is continuing into the theft of the vehicle.
