Brampton driver arrested after run from cops north of Barrie

Police have charged a Brampton man after taking off from a traffic stop and leading cops on a foot chase.

Police say members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Huronia West Detachment were called to a a stretch of Hwy 26 near McNabb Rd. west of Minesing shortly before 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday for reports of a single vehicle crash.

Police say and first responders from the Springwater Fire Department and the County of Simcoe Paramedic Services arrived on scene, but the male driver fled the crash on foot and ran into a rural area.

Officers say they contained the area and began a search alongside members of the OPP Emergency Response Team and OPP Canine units.

The driver was located a short time later and apprehended by police.

Police say the 29-year-old driver had a license suspension and was previously involved in a traffic stop where he fled from officers.

Christopher Anoff, 29, of Brampton, was arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
  • Flight from Peace Officer
  • Failure to Stop After Accident
  • Trespassing at Night
  • Careless Driving
  • Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle
  • Driving While Under Suspension
  • Operate a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance

Anoff is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on Feb. 1, 2022.

Minesing is about 16 kilometres northwest of Barrie.
