Peel Regional Police placed a Brampton academy and daycare on “hold and secure” after reports of a suspicious man in the area with a possible weapon.

Police said they were notified of a man pointing a “possible firearm” at vehicles in the Chinguacousy Road and Fandor Way around 12:00 p.m. on Thursday (March 10).

Near-by Applewood Montessori Academy & Daycare was placed on “hold and secure” as a precaution while officers worked to locate the man.

Police said it was unknown if the reported firearm was real as it had “an orange muzzle,” which are required for replica firearms, toy guns and BB guns.

UPDATE: A police spokesperson said the hold and secure order was lifted after police located the man.

Police said officers were speaking with the individual and it’s unknown if charges will be laid.

The spokesperson said there is no concern to public safety as the weapon appeared to be fake based on the description.

Thursday’s hold and secure was the second incident in Brampton this week involving a school and an imitation firearm.

On Monday (March 7), police said they received reports of a possible threat at Fletchers Meadow Secondary School on Chinguacousy Road and Botavia Downs Drive in Brampton.

The school was placed on a lockdown after reports of someone seen at the school with a gun.

Police said the weapon was in fact a BB gun, and five youths were taken into police custody at the school and a sixth was arrested later at a residence in Brampton.

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident and all of the youths were released into the care of their parents or guardians.
