Brampton Civic emergency room wait times top 2 hours

Emergency room wait times at Brampton Civic Hospital topped more than two hours on Friday afternoon (April 29).

William Osler Health System said it was experiencing long wait times at both Brampton Civic Hospital and Etobicoke General Hospital on Friday.

By 1:30 p.m., Osler’s emergency department wait clock showed a more than two hour wait time to see a doctor at Brampton Civic with 46 patients awaiting treatment.

Meanwhile, Etobicoke General had a wait time of 58 minutes.

Osler asked Brampton residents with non-urgent medical problems to hold off a trip to emergency and consider alternatives like a walk-in clinic, urgent care centres like Peel Memorial, or to  schedule an appointment with a family doctor.

The health system said the wait clock represents the approximate wait time most patients will wait to see a physician, and does not predict the entire length of stay “as that depends on the care required and tests a patient may need.”

You can also book an appointment with Osler’s Virtual Urgent Care service.

Back in January, Osler declared a Code Orange as an increase in COVID-19 patients and demand for hospital care outpaced hospital capacity.

Osler oversees operations at Brampton Civic and Etobicoke General, which typically see an increase in patients during the winter months according to former president and CEO Dr. Naveed Mohammad.
