Police have charged a pair of cat burglars from Brampton and Collingwood after leading officers on a chase near Barrie.

Officers from the Huronia West OPP were called on Wednesday (Jan. 11) about a possible break-in at a home in Clearview Township, some 40 kilometres west of Barrie.

The homeowner told police that someone had been in her house overnight while she was sleeping, and numerous items including credit cards, cash, and personal identification were missing.

Police say the suspects led investigators “on a wild goose chase” to several local businesses. Two suspects were located at a business in Collingwood where they were surrounded by numerous officers and taken into custody without incident.

Kyle Jesson, 31, of Brampton, and Kendra Hewitt, 31, of Collingwood have been charged with:

  • Break & Enter a dwelling house
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Use of credit card – three counts
  • Possession of a credit card

The accused were released from custody on an Undertaking and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood on Feb. 21. None of the allegations have been proven in court.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call Huronia West OPP at 1-888-310-1122. You can also contact CrimeStoppers to remain anonymous at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
