June is Bike Month with plenty of cycling events and activities all month in Brampton, and the city is encouraging residents to get pedalling to help keep fit and lower travel costs, all while reducing their carbon footprint.

Here are some of the events going on in Brampton for Bike Month:

Bike to Work Day

Bike Month kicks off on Thursday morning (June 1) with Brampton Bike to Work Day from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in Garden Square, featuring cycling repair sessions, Brampton bike tour information and a free breakfast from McDonald’s. Attendees can also try an electric scooter from the City’s new e-scooter program vendors.

Community Rides

There will be four community rides for Bike Month. The free casual cycling tours are led by volunteer members of the Active Transportation Advisory Committee and offer a chance for riders to explore Brampton on their bicycles and meet other cyclists.

Community rides will be held on June 6, 11, 20, and 25. To register for a community ride visit www.brampton.ca/communityrides.

Bike the Creek

Bike the Creek is back for its 9th year on June 10. The free annual event aims to raise awareness about the benefits of cycling and active transportation. There are plenty of touring routes to choose from, ranging from a 6-kilometre family fun ride all the way up to over 60-kilometre routes that lead riders through Brampton, Bramalea, Mississauga, and Caledon.

Here are some cycling safety tips for riders to remember this summer in Brampton:

  • Ensure your bike is in working order – Have it tuned up by a professional or learn how to do it yourself at Brampton’s Bike Hub.
  • Locks and Safety – Be sure to have a good u-lock, a bell, front and rear lights and a well-fitting helmet.
  • Learn the Rules of the Road – Understand what types of cycling infrastructure Brampton has here and review Peel’s Cyclist Handbooks to understand how to bike safely within the city.
  • Dress for the weather and stay hydrated – Check the forecast before biking and dress appropriately. And be sure to have water on hand, especially on hot days.
