Three youths from Brampton and Caledon have been charged and police are warning others not to take part in a TikTok trend involving imitation firearms.

Around 12:30 a.m. on June 28, the Caledon OPP say officers received reports of a person shot by a BB gun in the area of Valleywood Blvd. and Snelcrest Dr. in the Town of Caledon.

Police say three youths in a vehicle drove by the victim and discharged an “Orbeez toy firearm” at the person.

The suspects were located and arrested, and police say two toy firearms were seized during the investigation.

Police say there were no injuries in the incident, but assault with a weapon charges have been laid against three youths from Caledon and Brampton. The incident led police to issue a warning about an “alarming” TikTok trend called the “Orbeez Challenge.”

“It encourages users to buy Orbeez soft gel or water balls, load them in airsoft guns, and fire them at innocent victims,” police said in a statement warning those thinking of engaging in the challenge to consider the potentially serious consequences.

“The challenge is a criminal offence. If you are caught, you will face criminal charges against you,” police said.

The accused are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville, and their names have not been released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
