Boy struck while riding e-scooter in Brampton has died from his injuries

Peel Regional Police have confirmed that a boy who was struck by a vehicle while riding an e-scooter in Brampton has died from his injuries.

The boy was struck on Wednesday, June 14 at the intersection of Orangegrove and Sugarhill Drive and taken to hospital.

While police did not share any further information, a GoFundMe has been organized by a friend of the family for 13-year-old Mahkai.

The GoFundMe states that the boy died on Monday morning, June 19.

“We’re incredibly heartbroken about Mahkai but also extremely thankful for the outpouring of love and support from friends and strangers alike who have shared their unconditional kindness with us in our time of grief,” said the family.

“We would also like to thank the doctors and nurses at Sick Kids Hospital for the care and effort they gave to Mahkai.”

As of June 21 the GoFundMe has raised over $19,000 from 192 donations, surpassing its $15,000 goal.

Police say the investigation into the collision is ongoing, and have not confirmed any charges against the driver of the vehicle at this time.
