A two-time age-group national champion in Taekwondo will fight for Team Canada next month at the Cadet Pan Am Games in the Dominican Republic.

Levi Gavas, a 13 year-old from Bowmanville who trains with the Whitby Taekwondo Academy in Oshawa, won gold in January – his second straight national title – in the Cadet Flyweight (33-37 kg) category at the national championships in Toronto to earn his Team Canada spot.

Gavas, accompanied by Master Ron Lemoire, also competed in the Canada Open event in Vancouver, winning all three of his matches and the gold medal, before a trip to Las Vegas and a spot in the U.S. Open.

Gavas was defeated in the quarter-finals in that event, losing to the eventual gold medalist.
