The We Can We Care campaign kick-off in 2022

Bowmanville Hospital Foundation will launch the 2023 We Care, We Can Awareness Initiative Monday morning with a press conference at Garnet Rickard Complex.

The annual initiative is in support of the redevelopment and expansion for Lakeridge Health Bowmanville, a long-awaited project that was approved in the 2019 provincial budget.

Last year the campaign organized a number of events, including a CN Tower climb, photography mini-sessions and a family pizza night, with the wrap on June 27 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

The re-development, which will include a mix of new construction (such as a new emergency department) and major renovations and include a new helipad, is expected to more than double the size of the facility.

The plan got a big boost a year ago when the Province expedited the expansion by moving the project to Stage 2 of the planning process, which puts shovels in the ground by early 2025.

This year’s campaign is designed to empower local businesses and community organizations to support the foundation’s campaign efforts. Through local initiatives, the goal is to build awareness around the We Care, We Can campaign while raising funds for the hospital.

“The foundation seeks immediate support from small businesses and community organizations to come together and make meaningful contributions toward the type of hospital we want to see,” said Frank Cerisano, CEO of the foundation. “The redevelopment and expansion of the Bowmanville Hospital is essential to a thriving community and region. As hospital needs significantly grow, so does the need for the community to act now and come together as one. Every donation helps support our mission.”

The event initiative is scheduled to begin at 9 am at the arena’s Lobby A, with speakers including Cerisano and several other foundation executives and Clarington Councillor Willy Woo.
