The real estate market this year has been unprecedented. With the Bank of Canada increasing the lending rate seven times this year – the latest by 50 basis points – it has been a wild and wacky ride for home buyers and sellers in 2022.

The market has experienced longer-than-normal on-market listings and a spike in unaffordable property prices. There has also been an increase in listings in some Canadian cities and a decrease in others. Regardless, properties have been changing hands.

The top ten most viewed listings of the year, according to Zoocasa, include a converted 1912 train caboose in Milton, three homes in Toronto, properties in Mississauga, Hamilton, Owen Sound and Ottawa, a luxury rural estate outside Calgary that sold for $8 million and a house in north Bowmanville that nestled in to the #3 spot on the list.

The property, located at 27 Moses Crescent (off Middle Road, just south of the Bowmanville Golf & Country Club) is an unassuming 2-storey detached home that nonetheless garnered lots of attention when it went on the market six months ago

The corner lot home, which features an oversized garage, hardwood floors and nine-foot ceilings, breakfast bar and quartz centres, listed at $899,000 in May and sold six weeks later for $999,5s00 – $100,000 over asking.
