A man who professed to own a Bowmanville renovations company is wanted by Durham Regional Police after allegedly defrauding four people in Durham and Toronto.

Four victims separately came forward to DRPS in the Spring of 2021 to report they had been defrauded of deposits for renovations that were never completed.

The Financial Crimes Unit commenced an investigation into the claims, identifying a suspect as Tyler Beaumont, 36 of no-fixed-address.

Police allege Beaumont claimed to own Lonestar Fence and Deck out of Bowmanville. He would, allegedly, go the victim’s homes and give out a quote for fencing work.

Investigators claim he would then accept a deposit, ranging between $1,000 and $4,700, for work would never be completed. Victims were given a cell phone number that would eventually stop working and Beaumont would not be heard from again.

While police have identified four victims, investigators believe more people may have been defrauded.

Beaumont is wanted on four charges of fraud under $5000.

“Ensure that you take proper steps to identify who you are dealing with and to take your time to thoroughly check contractors before giving them any money,” police said in a statement.
