Now that the diverging diamond interchange, centre, on Glendale Ave is complete on open to traffic, the existing Glendale Ave overpass, right, has to be torn down. To that end, the QEW will be closed between Glendale Ave and Mountain Rd from tonight at 7:30 pm until tomorrow at 7:30 am. This photo was taken in June.

With the new diverging diamond Glendale Ave overpass now up and running as of this morning (September 26), there’s still one matter left.

The old Glendale Ave overpass, directly beside the new one and officially blocked off from traffic, has to come down.

To that end, the QEW will be fully closed tonight at 7:30 pm from Glendale Ave. in Niagara-on-the-Lake to Mountain Road in Niagara Falls.

Work crews will come in to demolish the former Glendale bridge overpass overnight with the QEW expected to reopen in the morning at 7:30 am.

The QEW Niagara-bound off-ramp will be closed at Glendale Avenue, while Toronto-bound traffic will be closed at Mountain Road.

Access to Highway 405 from QEW Niagara-bound will be through Glendale Ave, Taylor Rd, Mountain Rd, QEW, Thorold Stone Rd, and Stanley Ave.

QEW Toronto-bound will be diverted via a detour route through Mountain and Taylor Roads.

Highway 405 Toronto-bound will be closed at Stanley Avenue and traffic diverted via Thorold Stone Road, QEW, Mountain and Taylor Roads.
