Boozy truck driver leads to charges for Brampton company: police

Police have suspended a truck driver from Caledon and charged a Brampton company after a traffic stop in northeastern Ontario.

The incident happened back on May 6, when the OPP says officers with the James Bay detachment stopped a truck in Cochrane, approximately 105 kilometres northeast of Timmins.

Police stopped the truck “after observing equipment deficiencies and driving-related concerns,” and said the driver had consumed alcohol.

A breath test found the driver’s blood alcohol concentration was above zero, and the 45-year-old driver from Caledon was charged with drive commercial motor vehicle with a major defect in it or drawn vehicle, fail to enter defect in daily inspection report, and improper number plate light.

A Brampton-based company was also charged with fail to ensure performance standards are met, and fail to ensure daily inspection is conducted properly.

The driver was also hit with a three-day license suspension, police say.

“Under Ontario law, commercial motor vehicle drivers are subject to a zero-tolerance policy for alcohol,” the OPP says.

Anyone who witnesses a suspected impaired or unsafe driver can report it to police by calling 911 when it is safe to do so. Anonymous tips may also be provided to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or visiting www.ontariocrimestoppers.ca.

When you contact Crime Stoppers you stay anonymous, never have to testify, and could receive a $2,000 reward.
