One victim has been located following reports of gunshots in Whitby

A bomb threat was reported to Peel Regional Police last night after a suspicious package was found in the City Centre area in Mississauga.

On Friday (Aug. 12) at approximately 10:30 p.m., police responded to a call of a suspicious-looking package along City Centre Dr. and Duke of York Blvd.

There was also a big event being held at Celebration Square at the time the incident was reported.

Constable Morgan Miller told insauga.com that the departments Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) attended the scene to further investigate.

“We take these types of calls very seriously,” Miller said.

The EDU deemed the incident as a ‘false alarm’ and concluded that the package was not suspicious in nature.

“There will be no further investigations into the matter,” said Miller.
