This Bolton location resembles the Whitby Fulfillment Centre.

Amazon is hiring for more employees at its new sorting facility in Bolton.

The new “sort centre” is the second of its kind in Ontario and will mean faster delivery times across the GTA, according to Amazon.

Some 800 jobs will be supported at the approximately 270,000 square-f00t facility, and Amazon is boasting “a starting wage of $18.70 per hour and robust employee benefits.”

Caledon Mayor Allan Thompson has thrown his support behind the company, calling the new facility “great news for our communities, residents and our local economy.”

“Amazon is a highly regarded corporate partner in the Town of Caledon and I join them in welcoming their new employees,” Thompson said in a release.

Amazon facilities in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon have had issues with COVID-19 outbreaks during the last year.

The company paused its Prime Day marketing event in Canada this year amid ongoing outbreaks at its facilities in Peel Region, and facilities in Mississauga and Brampton were temporarily shuttered due to high numbers of COVID-19 cases.

Amazon said employees have already started work at the new facility and have recieved health and safety training, but Amazon is still hiring for more positions.

The company said site employees “will fulfill tasks such as sorting and loading customer items for final delivery.”
