Halton Regional Police Services (HRPS) has confirmed that Robert Wyles, a boater who went missing last week near Oakville, has been found dead.

On Aug, 26, Halton Police Marine Officers were in the area of 16 Mile Creek and Lake Ontario assisting a boater while a storm was moving through the area.

Police say that during this time they noticed another boat nearby which appeared to be adrift. The Marine Officers were able to board the vessel and determined there were no occupants aboard, upon closer examination.

A police investigation revealed the vessel was purchased earlier in the day and the experienced operator was observed alone, boarding and leaving Bronte Harbor at approximately 12:30 p.m.

A search and rescue was immediately initiated which quickly expanded to joint efforts between Halton/Peel/Hamilton Police Marine units, Towarf and JRCC (CFB Trenton).

According to police, today (Aug. 31) at approximately 10:30 a.m., a boater in the vicinity of Bronte Harbour in Oakville notified the HRPS of a deceased person in the water which they then confirmed was Robert Wyles.

The HRPS would like to extend their sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Wyles and thank the public for their assistance in the search.
