A Blue Jays fam from Hamilton is nearly $3 million richer today after winning the team’s 50/50 draw for April.

The Jays were selling tickets to the draw throughout the month of April. The winning ticket was sold during a game against the Detroit Tigers on the 11th. By the end of the month, the jackpot had grown to $2.87 million dollars.

However, when the Jays Care Foundation drew the winning number on April 30, no one came forward to claim the record-breaking jackpot.

It took nearly ten days to track down the winner. Since the ticket was bought at the Rogers Centre, the Jays didn’t have the winner’s phone number on file. They put out a call online instead and eventually found the winner.

They announced on May 10 that Deb from Hamilton had claimed her “life-changing” win.

The 50/50 draw supports Girls At Bat, a non-profit program that brings girls into baseball.

The next draw, currently with a nearly $120,000 jackpot, is on May 21, but the next mega jackpot is not until September.
