When it comes to ideal neighbourhoods for the senior lifestyle and for pet lovers, it seems one neighbourhood in Whitby and four Oshawa communities stand above the rest.

Blue Grass Creek (or Blue Grass Meadows, as it is also known) took top honours in the Best Neighbourhoods for Seniors category and the number two spot in the Best Pet-Friendly Places in an interactive ranking developed by a Toronto digital real estate company of the best neighbourhoods in the GTA by region.

Wahi, which released the Where to Live 2023 report this week, ranked neighbourhood vs neighbourhood in 11 lifestyle categories, with Blue Grass topping the seniors group for its variety of amenities withing walking distance, access to parks and the area’s peacefulness.

According to the rankings, Blue Grass has everything a senior would need in a place to live, including lots of park space and a local passion for arts and culture.

North Oshawa neighbourhoods Samac and Taunton placed second and third, with Samac praised for its many parks and trails and Taunton lauded for its access to a modern recreation centre and a network of nearby hiking trails.

For purr-fect pet friendly ‘hoods, Centennial, located north of Oshawa’s downtown, was ranked #1. With numerous lush green spaces, paths and a trail along Oshawa Creek, this tranquil neighbourhood is considered a pet lover’s paradise.

Blue Grass Creek, with its 14 parks, came in second, while Eastdale-Donovan, located just south of Oshawa’s most popular off-leash dog park, came in third. Parks, waterways, trails and wooded areas makes “finding pet-friendly green spaces easy” in Eastdale-Donovan, declared Wahi.
