Blackout leaves nearly 8,000 customers in the dark in Brampton

Repair crews are working to restore power to nearly 8,000 homes and businesses left in the dark in Brampton.

Alectra reported the outage just before 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday saying some 7,939 customers including businesses and residences were affected.

A map of the blackout shows a large area of Brampton West without power north of Bovaird Drive and west of Chinguacousy Road. Users on social media have also reported a traffic light outage in the area.

No details have been released on what caused the outage but the utility provider says repair crews have been dispatched and are working to restore power.

Alectra has not given an update on when service is expected to resume.
