Some of the best butter tarts found anywhere in Ontario will be in one place in Mississauga in a couple of weeks.

Featuring butter tarts and other sweets from vendors across the province, the annual Streetsville Butter Tart Festival sets up in the Village Square in the north Mississauga community on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Admission to the festival, which is hosted by Gotta Luv Butter Tarts, is free. However, organizers ask people to bring a donation for The Mississauga Food Bank, the city’s largest food bank that works with some 50 agencies to help those in need.

“Bakeries and crafters from all over Ontario will be showcasing their butter tarts and delicious sweet treats including candies, chocolates, cookies, shortbreads and more,” organizers said in a news release. “Enjoy hundreds of award-winning butter tarts by many of Ontario’s finest butter tart vendors. While enjoying your butter tarts, browse the local artisan market to take home some unique treasures.”

Gotta Luv Butter Tarts stages festivals/events and markets across the GTA including in Mississauga, Oakville, Bowmanville and Burlington.

As for the butter tarts themselves, event organizers say some people prefer flaky pastry or even phyllo shells while others don’t want crumbs falling on their clothes.

In short, there’s something for everyone, organizers add.

“Hundreds of varieties of butter tarts including vegan, gluten-free options will be available,” they say. “We have something for every taste including classic and non-traditional ones such as Nutella, lemon, Nanaimo, salted caramel, toffee, M&M’s, blueberry cheesecake, Turtles, glazed walnut, pecan, coconut, maple bacon, raspberry coconut and more.”

Some visitors to the festival will also serve as judges in determining the tastiest sweets at the day-long event.

Some of the featured bakeries taking part in the festival include:

  • Omi’s Sweet n Treats
  • Kate Bake’s
  • Sweet Oven Niagara
  • Ten of Tarts
  • I Can’t Believe it’s Gluten Free
  • Bruno’s Bakery and Cafe
  • Molly B’s Gluten Free
  • Holy Cannoli Toronto
  • Carla’s Cookie Box
  • Capital B Cafe
