Benefit cheques will be up to $280 this April in Ontario

Ontario residents looking for some extra funds may get a benefit cheque soon.

Unfortunately, unlike January, there are no Climate Change benefit or GST/HST credit payments. The next payment date for those benefits is in April.

There are a few payments coming in February, depending on financial status and other factors.

A look ahead to March shows some Ontario residents can expect the Canada Child Benefit and/or the Ontario Trillium Benefit.

The Canada Child Benefit is administered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). It is a tax-free monthly payment made to eligible families to help with the cost of raising children under 18 years old.

Anyone who is primarily responsible for a child living in Canada can apply for the benefit.

The amount a parent or guardian receives depends on the number of children in the family and the family net income. It can be up to $1,607 yearly per child.

The next payment dates for the Canada Child Benefit are Feb. 20 and March 20.

The Ontario Trillium Benefit is the combined payment of the Ontario energy and property tax credit, the Northern Ontario energy credit, and the Ontario sales tax credit.

It is designed to help low- to moderate-income Ontario residents with the sales tax on energy and with property taxes.

Residents between 18 and 64 years old could receive an annual amount of up to $1,194. Those 65 years old and over may receive up to $1,360 per year.

To qualify, residents must complete their income tax return.

The next payment dates for the Ontario Trillium Benefit are Feb. 9 and March 8.
