Hamilton’s 5G network is getting bolstered with the announcement Wednesday (May 26) that Bell is joining Rogers in expanding its 5th generation mobile network to Hamilton.

The city is one of 23 that Bell announced, along with Guelph, Kitchener-Waterloo, and London.

“The City of Hamilton is proud to welcome Bell’s 5G network and to be a part of this investment to help ensure our long-term growth and prosperity,” said Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger. “We look forward to the innovation and convenience that this will drive for both our businesses and residents.”

Bell 5G is available to approximately 35% of the Canadian population and the company says it’s on track to cover up to 70% by the end of the year.

The new service promises near-instantaneous speeds for downloading, uploading, and streaming.

However, most Hamiltonians won’t be able to access the technology immediately because the network requires the use of a 5G-enabled phone.
