Beating death of Brampton delivery driver in Mississauga leads to second arrest

Police have made a second arrest more than three years after a food delivery driver from Brampton was beaten and left for dead in Mississauga.

An international student who moved to Canada from India in 2021, investigators say Nath was ambushed while making a delivery and that the suspects stole his vehicle.

There was a physical altercation and Nath was left on the road as the culprits took off in his vehicle. He was rushed to hospital where he died of injuries five days later.

He was remembered as a hardworking international student “who was simply trying to make a living.”

In February 2024, Peel police said Jazaine Kerr, 23, of Mississauga was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and possession of a prohibited firearm. Police initially said Kerrhas was from Brampton and was also charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm and careless storage of a firearm.

In November 2023, an unidentified male youth was also charged with second-degree murder in Nath’s death, but police did not comment on those charges in an update on Friday.

A Canada-wide second-degree murder warrant was also issued for Devaunte Thompson, 26, of Caledon, and police now say the accused was arrested in Toronto on July 16. Peel police say he was held in custody pending a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice.
