From studio time and printmaking to behind-the-scenes tours, there’s lots to take in at Brampton’s Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) for parents and kids looking for some fun during the busy back-to-school season.

PAMA has released a preview of the events and exhibits coming up in September with plenty of free and affordable activities for students and families to enjoy.

Here’s a look at some of what you can check out at PAMA this month:

Doors Open Brampton – Sept. 9

First launched in 2002, Doors Open is a province-wide program that gives members of the public free and open access to explore municipal buildings and heritage properties all across Ontario.

PAMA is just one of several locations taking part in the event on Sept. 9, and guests can take in a free behind-the-scenes tour of the Peel County Jail, archives, museum vault and more.

Printmaking Workshop – Sept. 10

Explore different printmaking techniques in this unique workshop where you’ll personalize your own tote bag using cyanotype sun prints and monoprints using gel printing plates. The workshop is recommended for ages 16 and up, and guardians must accompany children.

Resin Workshop with Brampton Library at PAMA – Sept. 16

Make a Resin bookmark with local artists and entrepreneurs, Camille and Tash, from SheXArt. In this workshop you’ll learn all you need to know to get started with simple resin projects with all skill levels welcome.

En Plein Air Sketching Tour with BAO and PAMA – Sept. 23

Join the Brampton Arts Organization (BAO) and PAMA during Culture Days for a tour of the exhibition Yours to Discover: Sights/Sites of Peel Region.

“Be inspired by the sense of place that is uniquely Peel before we take it outside for a sketching tour en plein air. A French term, ‘en plein air’ is the process of creating artwork outside,” PAMA says.

Hammered Leaf and Flower Prints Activity – Sept. 24

Drop-in and learn how to make a print using leaves, flowers and hammers. This drop-in is free for Culture Days with donations welcome.

DIY Studio Time – Saturdays and Sundays

Explore exhibitions and connect over self-guided art projects to inspire some creativity. Do-it-yourself studio time activities change every month, with September focusing on the rich landscapes of Peel and vibrant hues of fall foliage.

For more information about all the exhibits at PAMA visit pama.peelregion.ca. Operated by the Region of Peel, PAMA is located at 9 Wellington Street East in Brampton.
