A fight at a school for troubled youth in Oshawa led to one student dousing another teenager with bear spray, police say.
Police responded to an assault call at Grove School, an educational facility on Simcoe St. S. serving students who have been placed in ‘Care, Treatment, Custody or a Correctional facility’ on Feb. 26, just before noon. Police said two youths were involved in a physical altercation when one of the boys sprayed the other with bear spray.
Police arrived on scene a short time later and located both the suspect and victim. The suspect, a 17-year-old Whitby resident, was taken into custody without incident.
Both the suspect, who has been charged with assault with a weapon and administering a noxious substance and has been released n an undertaking, and the victim were treated for minor injuries and contamination from the bear spray.
Students and staff were evacuated from the school because of possible contamination from the substance.
