Beaches in Pickering, Ajax, Oshawa and Clarington safe for swimming

Eleven beaches in Durham Region have been declared safe for swimming this week as families look to cool down after a hot and humid week.

The only beach on Lake Ontario with elevated bacteria levels on the August 9 test date was Whitby Beach at Heydenshore Park.

Both Frenchman’s Bay East and West beaches in Pickering were declared safe, as was Paradise Beach in Ajax, Lakeshore Beach East and West in Oshawa, Bowmanville East and West beaches, and Newcastle Central Beach.

Beaverton North Beach and Thorah Centennial Park Beach on Lake Simcoe were also declared safe for swimming, while Beaverton South Beach was posed unsafe.

Kinsmen Beach in Port Perry (Lake Scugog) was also posted as having high bacteria readings while Elgin Pond in Uxbridge was ruled safe for swimming.
