Basement of Oakville home under renovation catches fire, quickly brought to control

Some home renovation work may have led to a fire at an Oakville home on Monday (Aug. 15).

The Oakville Fire Department was called to a residence on Creekside Dr. at approximately 4:30 p.m. with reports that there was a fire in the basement.

Local fire crews discovered flames and heavy smoke coming from the basement upon their arrival and quickly worked to get the fire under control.

Everyone in the building was taken out safely and no injuries were reported.

The home was currently under renovation and it is believed that the fire may have been ignited by flammable material in the basement.
