There are important Health Canada recalls for cycling fanatics as well as parents in Mississauga and Brampton.

Trek brand bicycle handle bars are recalled because they can snap and send the rider down head first.

And a child’s activity desk and water-filled teethers are recalled this week because of choking and microbial contamination hazards. See below for more information about each specific recall.

Trek Carbon Handlebars/Stems and Bicycles

Risk: Trek Carbon handlebars/stems and select bicycles are recalled due to a fall hazard. The following three products are affected: Trek MY22 Speed Concept SLR bicycles, Trek MY21-MY22 Emonda SLR bicycles, and the Bontrager Aeolus RSL VR-C handlebar/stems.

The carbon bar may break during use, posing risk of fall hazard. The affected products were sold from June 2020 to June 2022.

As of August 17, 2022, the company has received one report of incident in Canada relating to the Aeolus handlebar/stem, resulting in a concussion, stitches, and a dental injury.

What you should do: Immediately stop using the bicycles and aftermarket handlebar/stem. Contact your local authorized Trek retailer to arrange for a free repair. For more information, visit the Trek Bicycle Canada website here.

Kidoozie Brand My First Activity Desk

Risk: Kidoozie brand ‘My First Activity Desk’ is recalled due to the potential for jaw entrapment and a protrusion hazard.

This product’s model number is G02587 with UPC 020373035875. The activity desk is meant for use by children 12 months and older. It has removable legs and adjustable crib straps and has the following dimensions: 38.1 cm x 8.3 cm x 26.7 cm.

The recalled product may pose a jaw entrapment and protrusion hazard when used as a crib toy. When a child’s jaw becomes entrapped in a product, there is potential for damage to teeth and gums.

The company reported that 1,826 units of the affected product were sold in Canada from January 2020 to March 2022.

What you should do: Immediately take the recalled ‘My First Activity Desk’ away from children. Contact Epoch Everlasting Play LLC for a refund or replacement or visit their website here.

Tootsie Baby Water-Filled Teethers and Teether Keys

Risk: Tootsie Baby water-filled teethers and teether keys are recalled due to microbial contamination.

Health Canada’s sampling and evaluation program has determined that the liquid filling is contaminated with the bacteria Bacillus cereus, Candida parapsilosis, and Omithinibacillus californiensis.

These bacteria generally do not cause illness in healthy individuals. However, the bacteria can affect children with weakened immune systems, causing stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea, if the teether is punctured and the liquid filling is ingested.

The water-filled teethers feature a hollow circle shape, with a square/triangle/circle pattern and the teether keys include two oversized keys attached to a blue ring. Both teethers are available in semi transparent colours of red, aqua and blue.

The company reported that 9,901 units of the affected product were sold in Canada.

What you should do: Immediately take the recalled teethers away from infants and dispose of the product. For more information, contact CTG Brands Incorporated by email at [email protected].

MyHome Gll Morningstar Cordless Blind

Risk: MyHome Gll Morningstar cordless blind is recalled due to strangulation and choking hazards to children.

What you should do: Immediately stop using the product and keep all of the cords away from children.

Home Basics Cordless Cellular Blackout Shades

Risk: Home Basics cordless cellular blackout Shades are recalled due to a choking hazard. But this choking hazard does not involve loose cords and strangulation like usual with blinds or shades. This risk comes from small end caps on the bottomrail that become detached and can be swallowed by a child.

What you should do: Immediately remove the end caps from the bottomrail and contact Kent Building Supplies to obtain a repair kit.
