Reports of a suspicious item required police to close a portion of Trafalgar Road in Oakville for several hours on Friday night (Dec. 10).

The Halton Regional Police Service said that around 4:30 p.m. that their officers had responded to reports of a suspicious item at Trafalgar Ridge Shopping Centre plaza (2431 Trafalgar Rd.). An explosives disposal unit was called in, and Trafalgar Rd. was shut down between Postridge Drive and Dundas Street East.

The area was declared “clear” at 10:08 p.m.

Patrons and staff were evacuated from a few stores, with HRPS officers making notifications in-person. There were no reports of any physical injuries.

A heavy police presence was expected to remain in the area throughout the evening. Residents were asked to take alternative routes and avoid the immediate area of Trafalgar Ridge until further notice.
