An ATV crash claimed the life of a Haldimand County resident and injured a Hamilton resident.

Paramedics, fire crews and police responded to a crash on Melick Road in Dunnville around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday (May 10), OPP said in a press release.

The driver, a 79-year-old resident of Haldimand County, and a 49-year-old passenger of Hamilton were travelling along Melick Road when the driver lost control and struck a tree ejecting both the driver and passenger.

The ATV operator suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to hospital and then airlifted to a Hamilton hospital for further treatment.

The passenger was also transported to hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
