A Mississauga man faces attempted murder and kidnapping charges in addition to being accused of numerous gun and drug offences in connection with separate police investigations.
Peel Regional Police said the alleged firearm and drug offences in addition to a charge of uttering threats are related to an April 15 intimate partner violence incident in which a man is believed to have used a gun.
A search warrant executed by police on a home and vehicle turned up a 9mm handgun and amounts of various drugs, investigators said.
As it relates to that incident, Muhammad Asif, 29, of Mississauga, is charged with:
- utter threats
- unauthorized possession of a firearm
- carrying a concealed weapon
- knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
- occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
- possession of a firearm contrary to an order (two counts)
- various drug possession offences (heroin, cocaine, opioid, MDMA)

Police said in a news release on Wednesday the accused was later identified as a suspect in a March 9 kidnapping and attempted murder in the area of Burnhamthorpe Road West and Mavis Road in Mississauga. A warrant for his arrest was subsequently issued.
On June 2, Asif was re-arrested by investigators and charged with kidnapping and attempted murder, police said. He was held for a bail hearing and subsequently returned to custody while he awaits trial.
