Investigators have charged a man with attempted murder following a police involved shooting in Burlington earlier this month.
The shooting happened on March 8 around 12:30 a.m. following a traffic stop in the parking lot of the Crestwood motel in Burlington, the Halton Regional Police Service says.
Two people were in the vehicle at the time and when police approached, there was a “interaction” between officers and the driver, police said.
Ontario’s Special Investigation Unit says the driver “drove towards officers,” and that an officer fired “numerous” shots that struck the driver multiple times.
Paramedics transported the 23-year-old man to a hospital in Hamilton where he was in stable condition. He has been released from hospital and was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
And while an SIU investigation into the shooting is ongoing, Halton police say they’ve charged the man with attempted murder, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and possession of a controlled substance – fentanyl.
The name of the accused has not been released.
Five investigators, two forensic investigators and one collision reconstructionist have been assigned to the case, and the SIU says anyone who may have information, including video or photos, should contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online at www.siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php.
