‘Attempted child abduction’ of kids working at lemonade in Ontario town leads to charges, police say

The OPP has charged an Ontario man following what’s being called an “attempted child abduction” of kids in an Ontario town.

The incident happened in Beeton on Thursday when a group of children operating a lemonade stand were approached by a man who “made inappropriate comments and invitations toward the children,” the OPP says.

Police were alerted about the incident and identified a suspect who has since been arrested.

The OPP says Larry Chen, 61, of New Tecumseth, has been charged with three counts of abduction of a person under 14 – take or entice.

The accused is being held in custody pending a bail hearing in Brampton on Aug. 6.

Police are reminding parents and caregivers to speak with children about personal safety and how to respond to uncomfortable or suspicious situations
