Asymptomatic COVID-19 testing clinics to be held at two Hamilton schools this week

Hamilton’s public school board is holding two asymptomatic COVID-19 testing clinics at local schools on Wednesday (April 28).
The voluntary clinics, one at Ancaster District High School and one at Westmount Secondary School, welcome walk-ins from the local school communities for the testing. Testing is open only for asymptomatic individuals (those who are not experiencing any COVID‐19 symptoms).
“Even while we learn remotely, this testing clinic will help ensure that our schools remain a safe environment for those who are learning and working in-person as well as help our community,” the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board’s (HWDSB) website said.
The Ancaster High clinic runs from 11:15 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and is open to students and staff from the following schools, as well as all children and staff of child care and before‐and-after school care programs associated with the following schools:
- Ancaster High
- Ancaster Meadow
- Frank Panabaker North
- Frank Panabaker South
- Mt. Hope
- Rousseau
- Spring Valley
- Tiffany Hills
The clinic at Westmount runs from 11:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. and is open to the following schools:
- Westmount Secondary School
- Westwood
- Westview Education Centre
- Glenwood
The asymptomatic testing at these clinics is less invasive than the tests conducted at Hamilton’s large-scale COVID-19 testing clinics where samples are collected from the back of the nasal cavity with a swab.

“LifeLabs uses a swab like a Q‐tip that is inserted into the front part of the nostril and rotated for fifteen seconds (per nostril),” the HWDSB website explains. Results are available through LifeLabs within 24 to 48 hours.
After these two asymptomatic testing clinics, HWDSB has one more scheduled for May 5 at Sherwood Highschool on the East Mountain.
