Charges have been laid against a Brampton man and a teen from Waterloo after police say a victim was hit over the head with what turned out to be a fake gun.

The incident happened around 2 p.m. on Monday when Waterloo Regional Police say officers were called to the area of Sunview Street and Hickory Street West in Waterloo after witnesses saw a man running with a gun.

Police say suspects were seen hitting a victim in the head with a firearm and then pointing the gun at two people before getting into a vehicle. One of the suspects had their face covered at the time of the incident, police said.

The vehicle and two suspects were located a short while later by police, and a baton and the firearm were also located, which police say turned out to be an airsoft gun.

Police say an 18-year-old male from Waterloo and a 20-year-old male from Brampton were arrested and charged with being an occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm. The 18-year-old was also charged with numerous other offences including assault with a weapon, point firearm and disguise with intent.

Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has information on this case to call the Waterloo Regional Police at 519-570-9777. You can also contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by visiting www.ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
