One person has been arrested and police are searching for two others after a bylaw officer was assaulted on the job in Caledon.
The attack happened early Sunday morning around 2 a.m. when an on-duty Town of Caledon Municipal Law Enforcement Officer was assaulted “by a group of individuals,” the OPP says.
Police say the assault happened on Fallview Circle in the community of Southfields Village while the officer was “in the course of their duties.”
The bylaw officer was transported to hospital with minor injuries.
Caledon Mayor Annette Groves said the incident is the first time in years that a town bylaw officer was assaulted while on the job.
“No one should ever face the risk of violence when they go to work,” the mayor said in a release. “Employee safety remains our top priority, and we continue to work with our entire staff team to ensure they feel safe when they come to work.”
On Thursday, police say they located and arrested one suspect in relation to the assault. Police have not said what charges are pending and the identity of the suspect has not been released.
Police say they are seeking an arrest warrant for a second suspect who has been identified, while a third suspect has yet to be identified.
The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information about the assault to contact investigators.
