Art Gallery of Mississauga accepting photo submissions for current exhibit

Photo submissions are being accepted for an exhibit that recently hit the Art Gallery of Mississauga.
The exhibit, called The Further Apart Things Seem, will be on display until Apr. 9 and explores the possibility of finding common ground in a social and political moment where opinions are divisive.
The exhibition features work by artists who are “pursuing subtle forms of resistance and testing the unexpected to build resilience, resolution, and understanding.”
These artists include Atanas Bozdarov, Anna Binta Diallo, Barbara Hobot, Adriana Kuiper and Ryan Suter, Brendan Lee Satish Tang and Couzyn van Heuvelen.
In response to The Further Apart Things Seem, the Art Gallery of Mississauga invites residents to submit photographs of access ramps found in and around their communities.
The Ramp Project is an extension of Bozdarov’s Ramp Photos which are a series of photographs that focus on the functionality of ramp structures in different cities. Bozdarov’s images consider how portable access ramps vary in their usefulness and focus on the need for “a more thoughtful approach” to accessibility in cities.

The submissions will become part of a growing collection of images, which will be shared on social media and at the exhibit which is updated weekly.
“In a time where debates over human rights, climate change, land claims, and even the politicizing of the pandemic often seem at cross-purposes and irresolvable, the possibility of finding common ground can seem beyond reach,” said the Art Gallery of Mississauga in a release.
“The Further Apart Things Seem invites audiences to consider how we respond in times of uncertainty—when do we push forward, when do we give up, and when do we try things differently?”
The exhibition is being co-presented by Contemporary Calgary, the University of Waterloo Art Gallery, and the Art Gallery of Mississauga and is being supported by the City of Mississauga, the Ontario Arts Council, the Canada Council for the Arts and the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
The exhibit will be on display until Apr. 9, 2023.
