Arrests made in Square One and Erin Mills jewelry store robberies in Mississauga

Three people face charges in brazen, smash-and-grab robberies in jewelry stores at two different Mississauga malls.

Video captured six masked culprits smashing display cases at Charm jewelry store inside Erin Mills Town Centre last Thursday (May 9). Police later confirmed the store was robbed.

Then the next day, May 10, suspects armed with hammers at a jewelry store inside Square One Shopping Centre.

Police now say the two robberies are connected and have charged three people.

On Thursday, May 9, six people allegedly entered a jewelry store inside a Mississauga mall armed with hammers, Peel Regional Police said in a press release today (May 15).

The people, wearing disguises to conceal their identities, smashed several display cases and removed a large quantity of jewelry. The suspects escaped in a vehicle previously reported stolen in Toronto, police said.

Then on Friday, May 10, police were conducting patrols inside a different Mississauga mall when five people allegedly targeted another jewelry store. Armed with hammers, they replicated the previous day’s brazen robbery by allegedly smashing display cases and fleeing with high-value items.

Three people were arrested at the scene following a brief foot pursuit with officers and mall security.  Two other suspects escaped and are currently outstanding.

Police recovered a large amount of jewelry and weapons. A stolen vehicle was also located and seized.

Fortunately, no physical injuries were reported in either incident.

Three people face charges in connection with the robberies.

Gerald Walker, an 18-year-old man from Toronto, is charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of wearing a disguise with intent, and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime.

Tejpal Toor, a 20-year-old man from Toronto, is charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of wearing a disguise with intent, and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime.

A 17-year-old young person from Toronto, is charged with two counts of robbery, two counts of wearing a disguise with intent, and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime. Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the teen can not be identified.

All three people were held for bail hearings.

This investigation remains ongoing, and police anticipate more charges could be laid.
