The Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) has made several arrests in relation to an attempted robbery that occurred in the Town of Milton.
Police say on Apr. 7, 2022, at approximately 10:55 a.m., a male suspect, who was wearing a mask and gloves, attended the All Eyes Optical store located at 6911 Derry Rd.
He attempted to gain entry into the store, however, it was locked. He then left in a vehicle with two other male suspects waiting inside, according to police.
Police say employees believed the suspect was attempting to rob the store and contacted police, however, the suspects were gone once they arrived.
At approximately 11:40 a.m., the same vehicle returned to the store and one of the male passengers attempted to enter for a second time, however, it remained locked and the suspects did not enter, according to police.
Police quickly re-attended the parking lot and found the suspects parked in a silver Acura, which was the same vehicle that was earlier reported to the police.
Police say officers blocked in the Acura with their cruiser and an officer attempted to exit the police vehicle. The driver of the Acura accelerated and drove into the police vehicle, pinning the officer between the cruiser and its open door. The vehicle then fled at a high-speed rate.
As a result of the collision, the officer suffered minor physical injuries.
According to police, other officers in the area deployed a tire deflation device on the Acura in an attempt to stop the suspect vehicle. The device caused damage to the tires, however, the suspects continued to flee from the police.
Police say the suspect vehicle eventually lost control of it on James Snow Pkwy and the suspects fled on foot into a residential neighbourhood.
Police contained the area and began a search for the suspects. All three suspects were located hiding in a residential backyard and placed under arrest, according to police.
Police say a K9 search of the area resulted in the recovery of a loaded Glock handgun and a Glock air pistol in a residential backyard. The Acura vehicle used by the suspects has been reported stolen to the Toronto Police Service.
