Two men are facing a dozen weapons charges after a four-plus month investigation into an armed home invasion in Ajax.
Police responded to an armed person call at a home at Westney Road and Kingston Road on Feb. 3 after residents in the home said two men broke in armed with handguns. The suspects fled in a vehicle prior to police arrival.
Investigators were able to identify the two suspects and on June 18 the West Division Crime Team, with the assistance of the Tactical Response and Community Response units and the East Division Crime Team and Intelligence Unit, executed search warrants at five locations in Durham and Toronto and arrested two men.
During the search warrants, officers seized a firearm with two over-capacity magazines, several rounds of ammunition, a quantity of drugs, including cocaine, fentanyl and methamphetamine, and various Schedule I pills. They also seized a large quantity of Canadian currency.
Wazir Fofilzeh, 29 from Mississauga is charged with eight weapons offences – including armed robbery – three drug trafficking counts and possession of stolen property.
At the time of his arrest, Fofilzeh was on a weapons prohibition and an order not to possess any ammunition.
Ahmed Ali, 30, from Oshawa, is charged with four weapons offences and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Both were held for a bail hearing.
