The Ontario Regiment Museum is a sharing a “huge TANK YOU” to all those to came out to AQUINO Tank Weekend.

AQUINO is the Ontario Regiment Museum’s biggest event of the year and the first since 2019 because of the pandemic. Attendance figures haven’t been finalized but an estimated 4,500 people roamed the grounds over the weekend and the grandstand for Sunday’s Battle Re-Enactment was at capacity.

Organizers are calling the weekend, which also serves as a major fund-raiser for the museum, a huge success.

“This year was one of our best, and a boost to our museum after several difficult pandemic years,” the Ontario Regiment Museum said on Facebook. They also offered a “special thanks to the small ‘army’ of volunteers” who make sure the event runs smoothly, citing Ontario Regiment Museum mambers, 420 Wing Oshawa Inc., Royal Canadian Legion Br 637, Cadet Corps, OMVA and Base Borden Museum.

Financial and in-kind support from the City of Oshawa, Oshawa Executive Airport and the event’s major sponsor, World of Tanks, also helped make the weekend happen.

The Aquino Tank Weekend – commemorating a 1944 battle in Italy in which the Ontario Regiment played a pivotal role – is the museum’s showcase event, with tanks and other military vehicles on display from the largest collection in North America. It is also Canada’s largest military show – where you can experience tanks and other military vehicles up close in battle re-enactments and even take rides in tanks and other military vehicles.

“What an incredible weekend,” the museum’s social post added. “We look forward to seeing you all again in 2023.”
