April 25 weather: Thunderstorm risk across GTA and southern Ontario

There could be thunderstorms throughout the day on Friday in the Greater Toronto Area and across southern Ontario.

Environment Canada says Friday will start off with mainly cloudy skies, with a 30 per cent chance of rain in Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, changing to a 70 per cent chance in the afternoon.

There’s also a risk of thunderstorms in the afternoon, including in Hamilton, Oshawa and Durham Region, and Niagara Falls, while the Orillia area could see up to 15 cm of rainfall.

The daytime high will be around 14 C in Mississauga with a UV index of 7, the weather agency says.

Into the evening, there’s a chance of more showers and a continued risk of thunderstorms across the GTA. The overnight low is expected to be around 10 C in Mississauga, and fog patches are also possible.

Saturday could also bring some more rain with a 40 per cent chance of showers and a high of around 13 C, while Sunday is expected to see sunny skies and a high around 18 C.

The Ottawa area is under a rainfall warning with up to 50 mm of rainfall possible through the weekend.
