Applications are now being accepted for the City of Burlington’s 2021 COVID-19 property tax deferral program.

Last month, city council approved the program to help provide relief to those facing financial hardships due to the ongoing pandemic.

Eligible residents and businesses that continue to experience financial hardships related to COVID-19 and are unable to pay property taxes by the scheduled due dates, may apply for a deferred pre-authorized monthly payment plan.

Property owners may select the month that they would like to begin the pre-authorized monthly payments. The options include April 1, May 1, June 1 or July 1.

Property owners are reminded that equal monthly withdrawals will allow for the taxes to be paid in full by Dec 1, 2021.

Those eligible with an unpaid balance on their account from March 1, 2020, onward may include this balance in the pre-authorized monthly payment plan.

Following enrollment, penalties and interest will be suspended for the duration of the deferral as long as payments are made.
