Work is underway to bring a second new youth hub to Brampton, connecting teens and young adults with recreation, employment and career services, mental health supports and more.

The first youth-focused centre opened in the Susan Fennell Sportsplex back in 2023 and the city is moving ahead with bringing a second facility to Brampton next year.

The hubs offer a “comprehensive support system” to youth and includes wrap-around services for mental health, substance use and primary care services, as well as recreational, educational and wellness services all under one roof, the city says.

Brampton has partnered with the Peel Children’s Aid Society to build the 12,500 square-foot facility “with youth-centric designs” including games and e-sports areas, creative spaces, meeting rooms and more.

Outdoor amenities will include an amphitheatre, community gardens, a basketball court and the already-opened Atiba Hutchinson Soccer Court.

The new youth hub was originally slated to open in the fall of 2024, but the city now says the completion date will be in 2026.

“By creating a space that integrates mental health services, recreational opportunities and educational support, we are ensuring that every young person has access to the tools and resources they need to succeed,” said Mayor Patrick Brown in a statement.

Amenities at the current Susan Fennell youth hub include a multimedia suite with creator tools for video and music production, an Esports lounge for gamers, and a lounge for youth to hang out and connect.

This province is committed to adding 10 more youth hubs to Ontario’s network of 22 hubs already opened since 2020. The province says the hubs that have connected 43,000 youth and their families to mental health, substance use and wellness service.
