America’s Got Talent winner inspires young puppeteers at Beaverton school

Singer/ventriloquist Darci Lynne, the youngest ever winner of America’s Got Talent, spoke to puppet-creating students at Thorah Central Public School in Beaverton Wednesday in a virtual presentation that lasted more than an hour.
Oklahoma-born Lynne, now 17, was just 12 when she appeared on and won the 12th season of the hit talent show as a singer and ventriloquist.
Staff and students at Thorah Central Public School, thanks to Community-Connected Experiential Learning grant funding through the Durham District School Board, received some hands-on puppeteering experience this school year and created puppets for students from Grades 1-4. The school will continue to build and perform with large scale blacklight puppets in the fall.
Lynne talked with the students about her America’s Got Talent win, her life after the show, and about puppets and ventriloquism. The students were also treated to a performance from Lynne and her famous puppet Petunia.
Her polished, impeccable skill as a ventriloquist at such a young age just might inspire the next generation to keep the craft alive.
